Located in the sertão de la Paraíba, the Lajedo de Pai Mateus is a vast granite plateau that impresses with its unique landscape. Hundreds of rounded rocks, some measuring more than three metres in diameter, are scattered over an area of about 1.5 km², creating an almost lunar atmosphere.
Beyond its geological value, the site is imbued with mysticism. According to legend, a hermit named Pai Mateus lived in the area, treating the sick with his healing powers. Even today, the place retains a spiritual aura and attracts visitors, researchers and the curious.
The most striking spectacle occurs at sunset, when the rocks are coloured with orange and purple tones, offering an unforgettable panorama in the heart of the Brazilian Nordeste.
