Pedra da Gávea Trail
Pedra da Gávea is known as a difficult trail, but it's worth the effort! We decided to embark on this adventure for the reward of a marvelous view. At 7:30 am we set off on this trail.
At the beginning of the trail, it's adventure time!
Initially, it's mostly an uphill climb with the monkeys well-known in Rio de Janeiro. Then comes the more complicated part, with a bit of climbing; remember to bring clothes that can get dirty! It may seem impressive, but it's not very complicated; if we can do it, you can too. Some supports have even been added to help. After that, the only big challenge is remembering to stay well hydrated and put on sunscreen, because the sun is not shy.
Then, we arrive at a large rock. We have two options: use the harnesses offered by the guide for about 30 reais or show our courage by climbing the approximately 50 meters with our own hands. A word of advice: don't look down and follow your teammates without overthinking; this will prevent them from panicking.
Finally, when you reach 800 meters of altitude, it's time to celebrate! The view is breathtaking; you can see the beaches of Rio de Janeiro: from Ipanema to Niterói and Barra beach on the other side, so imagine the grandeur of this view. We appreciate the panorama while resting. The strong point of this trail is also linked to its difficulty: it's quieter at the end, as it's not overrun by tourists!
On the way back, we have one last difficult stage: the descent of the rocky slope. But it was all worth it!
